The civic body, he said, has a very elaborate mechanism to ensure that animal products like meat, milk, etc. are safe for the use of consumers.

“In recent years, many of the diseases spreading across the world have originated from animals or birds, like bird flu or mad cow disease, causing deaths in many countries,” said Hisham Ahmed Fahmi, head of the Veterinary Services Section at the municipality. Hence, maintaining the health of animals is very important, he added.

Harmful leftovers of meat, chicken and animal products can cause fatal diseases like cancer and damage body tissues and internal organs, including nervous system, eye, kidney or bones, Fahmi said.

“Civic body staff work very hard. The staff at the Veterinary Services Section too meticulously monitor the animal products,” added Fahmi.
