When contacted, an official source at the ministry said “a ministerial decree has already been issued. Members of the committee include federal as well as local health authorities from across the country. The private pharmacy sector will also have representation in the upcoming committee”.

The committee will be chaired by Humaid Al Shamsi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Pharmacy and Supplies at the ministry, said the official.

The Dubai Department of Health Medical Services, the General Authority for Health Services in Abu Dhabi, and the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, will also have its members on the committee, he said.

Private pharmacies, including a chain of pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies like the Al Madina Pharmacy, Modern Pharmacy, General Medicines Company, Pfizer Company, Julfar and Theopharma pharmaceutical factories, will be members of the panel. One of the key tasks of the committee would be to address issues pertaining to pharmaceutical products being sold in the country and to chalk out plans and make recommendations that target developing the pharmacy sector at a national level.

He said the committee is also expected to adopt recent technical and scientific approaches in the field of pharmacy, and enhance the quality of scientific research conducted on pharmaceutical products, as well as prepare a comprehensive awareness programme regarding consumption of pharmaceutical products.
