An administrative decision to this effect was issued yesterday by Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director-General of Dubai Municipality, who noted that the Drainage and Irrigation Department, Environment Department, Contracts and Purchasing Department and the Investment Office would issue the necessary approval.

“This decision is aimed at protecting the city’s environment and safeguarding the emirate’s drainage network. The rules and regulations that are going to be issued by the departments concerned would prevent oil residues reaching the sewage treatment plant,” said an official.

The decision is applicable to all types of oil residues generated by food establishments and factories, as well as remnants of oil and lubricants generated by industrial and service establishments.

The Drainage Department will introduce necessary rules and regulations regarding the sorting of various types of organic oil residues generated by food establishments and factories, as well as the metallic oil residues generated by various service activities of car washing centres and others.

This is aimed at preventing the disposal of such waste in the drainage network and causing any negative impact on the sewage treatment plant. The department will also identify companies that were licensed to retrieve, collect, and transport oil residues generated by food establishments and factories.
