More inspections to curb selling of fake auto parts

EVEN as we cautioned yesterday in this column that the authorities concerned should take stringent action against those guilty of selling fake auto parts, especially duplicate or sub-standard tyres, there was a tragic accident in Um Al Quwain.

This fatal accident should warn us of the consequences of failure to deal with the menace of fake auto parts in the market. The driver involved in the accident lost control of his vehicle following a tyre burst.

His vehicle over-turned and the driver trapped inside was killed on the spot.

Of course, as yet, we have no details of the accident.

But tyre bursts leading to serious (or even fatal as in this case) accidents are becoming more and more common on UAE roads, especially on the highways. The authorities concerned must react to this situation promptly.

They should carry out more inspections and take stiff penal action against all those guilty of selling fake or sub-standard auto parts. In other words, whatever it takes to resolve this problem is what needs to be done.
