The parking problem in Karama is quite serious and ranks amongst the worst in the emirate with people looking for parking spaces for hours everyday, particularly in the evenings.

Many are forced to park their vehicles on the pavements which usually result in fines by the police and the RTA.

According to Najib Al Zarooni, Director, Car Parking Department at the RTA, the unpaid parking zones are misused by many motorists who park their cars haphazardly.

“Cars are parked in haphazard and chaotic ways in these unpaid lots causing lot of problems. There have been instances when a motorist has not been able to take out his car from a free parking lot for hours together because of the wrongly parked cars,” the official noted.

The official added that tenders for the construction of multi-storeyed parking lots will be announced soon.

“We are currently carrying out a study on the areas where there is a lack of parking spaces. The work on the new parking lots will commence by the end of this year. Areas like Karama will be given first preference,” he said.
