It has been observed that many workers spend their midday breaks on the streets.

Sadik Ahmed, a worker, said, “We spend our noon break under the trees after having lunch. We resume work at 3.00pm.”

Meanwhile, sources at the MoL reiterated the ministry’s decision to cease work during midday in July-August, and also stressed the need for companies to take the workers back to their camps or provide air-conditioned areas for rest.

Dr Moris Kalas, head of the Emergency Department at Al Nour Hospital, Abu Dhabi, said, “It is not healthy for people to stay under the sun or even under shadow for a long time as that may cause heat stroke and health problems.”
