Humaid bin Deemas, acting director-general of the Ministry of Labour, said that the new services will provide more facilities and allow transactions to be completed online.

Each transaction is expected to be approved or rejected, and the client informed electronically, within 24 hours. E-services have already enabled the processing of 500,000 applications this year, compared with 300,000 in 2008.

New services include E-Natwasal, which allows business owners of companies to know what proportion of nationalities is working for them. About 4,732 have used this service so far. E-Natwasal includes 20 electronic access for employees to get data on their contract and labour cards. It also has data on salary certificates.

Deemas said about 127,000 employees visited the ministry’s website in 2008 to check details of their contracts. The ministry also launched an initiative — Tabadol —to connect electronically with the Department of Naturalization and Residency in Dubai.
