Mohammed tour boost for schools

DUBAI — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has stressed the need for decentralising administrative and financial affairs of UAE public schools, adding that centralism blocks progress and development efforts in all areas.

Shaikh Mohammed also gave orders to the Minister of Education, Dr Hanif Hassan, to meet all the needs of schools and provide them with all possible support. He also gave orders to provide all UAE public schools with computers and digital accessories.

Extensive tour

Shaikh Mohammed made his remarks yesterday during inspection field visits to a number of schools in remote areas of Dubai and Ajman on the first day of the 2007-2008 academic year.

Accompanied by the Minister of Education and CEO of Dubai School Agency, Fatima Ghanim bin Ghanim Al Merri, Director of Ajman Educational Zone and senior officials, Shaikh Mohammed started his tour at Mzerie Girls High School.

He toured the 24-classroom school which accommodates 537 students and discussed with the teaching and administrative staff the school’s needs in the new academic year and gave directives to optimise performance and advance the level of teaching in the country to meet the requirements of the recently-launched UAE federal government strategy.

The next stop on Shaikh Mohammed’s tour was at Rawdhat Al Yaqoot Kindergarten in Masfoot where he inspected the quality of the meals and drinks given away to children. Ammar bin Yasser co-ed was the third stop where Shaikh Mohammed toured the 18 classrooms, laboratory and library.

The fourth and last stop on Shaikh Mohammed’s inspection tour was Al Dahra Girls High School in Hatta where he visited the 20 classrooms which accommodate around 457 students. He was accorded a warm welcome by the students and the teaching staff.

He inquired about the requirements of the school and paid a visit to a painting exhibition, the school’s Princess Haya bint Al Hussein Internet Club.
