Mohammed hails UAE-Tunisia ties

TUNIS — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has said that his visit to Tunisia and meetings with the Tunisian leader offerred an opportunity to further strengthen the bilateral relations.

In a cable sent to President Zine Al Abidine Ben Ali on his departure at the conclusion of his two-day visit to Tunis, Shaikh Mohammed thanked him for the hospitality and wished him and his people a glorious future. “We also had the opportunity to know the great civilisation of your people under your presidency , and we thank you for your great hospitality and warm reception,“ he said.

“As we are leaving Tunisia , we have the pleasure to express our thanks , gratitude and appreciation for the warm welcome we received and the great hospitality we enjoyed in your country. We pray God to bless you and your people and help you achieve prosperity , advancement and welfare for the people of Tunisia,” Shaikh Mohammed added.

An official farewell ceremony was held for Shaikh Mohammed at the Presidential Palace where the anthems of the two countries were played. Shaikh Mohammed, accompanied by theTunisian President reviewed the guard of honour.

Earlier,The UAE and Tunisia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on mutual exemption of holders of diplomatic, special and mission passports from entry visa.

The MoU was signed by visiting UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Tunisian counterpart Abdul Al Wahab Abdullah.

The two ministers emphasised their determination to boost the bilateral ties under the stewardship of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE and President Zine Al Abidine Ben Ali of Tunisia.

Meanwhile, a number of Tunisian Arabic and French newspapers Alchourouk , Al Sabah and La Presse yesterday hailed Shaikh Mohammed’s visit as a ‘great event’ which will not only boost the UAE-Tunisia ties but will also serve as a model of successful ‘inter-Arab ties’.
