Mohammed gives nod to new standards for consumer products

DUBAI - His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a decision on endorsement and amendment of 29 mandatory standards of some goods and consumer products traded in the UAE.

The resolution comes under the government’s efforts to preserve the rights of consumers, market protection and promotion of the supervisory role of the government through standardisation in accordance with the approved international standards to ensure health and environmental protection in society and achieve the best return on expenditure for the citizens and residents.

It also comes in the context of the government’s role to support the national economy by improving the quality of products, services in local markets and ensure their quality.

The decision approved and modified 29 standard mandatory standards of some consumer goods, household and personal products that are traded in the UAE and has been filed by the Emirates Standardisation and Metrology.

The implementation of these standards immediately follows the decision to ensure safety, protection and environmental health of communities, and ensure high-quality specifications of the domestic, imported and exported products and services and their suitability to human beings and the environment.

The products include grains and grain products, some fish products, meat, mineral water and ‘halal food’, energy drinks, pigments and some household electrical products and others.
