Mohammed, Brown confer on regional, world issues

The call was made during official talks at 10 Downing Street today between visiting Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Gordon Brown, the British Prime Minister.

ShAikh Mohammed urged Brown to use his good offices, as premier of a major world power, to create momentum in the international efforts seeking to achieve justice and equality among nations in the region, who have long been suffering from the scourges of wars and from a lack of security, stability and development.

For his part, Brown praised the humanitarian and charity initiatives by Shaikh Mohammed. He paid special tribute to Shaikh Mohammed for launching the Mohammed bin Rashid Knowledge Foundation and the Dubai Cares campaign, which seeks to provide primary education to one million underprivileged children in the poor countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Brown commended this initiative as a humanitarian step of international significance. He said it deserves all praise and support from Britain and all other concerned countries, companies and individuals until it achieves its goals and contributes practically in saving and protecting children.

The two leaders reviewed the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries and ways of developing them in all fields towards a true partnership based upon the mutual interest and bilateral trade and investment.

The talks between Shaikh Mohammed and Brown also reviewed a wide range of regional and international issues of common interest.

The talks were attended by Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, Shaikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Easa Saleh Al Qurg, UAE Ambassador to Britain.
