Born on February 9, 1987, Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi had his schooling at the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) English Speaking School after which he joined the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated in political science.
After his return from the US in 2009, he joined the RAK Ruler’s Court and has ever since steered several initiatives to enhance government sector competitiveness and efficiency.
He has also overseen the implementation of the Mohammed bin Saud Housing Rehabilitation Programme during the last 10 years.
The programme helps local people rebuild their houses in the emirate and has provided funding to rebuild close to 1,000 homes till date.
The programme which initially focused on villages and the industrial zones has now been expanded to cover all of Ras Al Khaimah. Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud is also keen on the expansion of the industrial and tourism sectors of the emirate. An avid reader of books and journals on international relations and literature, Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud also shares a passion for sports.
Khaleej Times spoke to some Emiratis in RAK regarding the crown prince’s appoitment.
Hassan Hamdan Al Akim, General Director of the Department of Economic Development (DED) in RAK said: “The appointment of Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud as the Crown Prince of the emirate was a wise choice, as he is following the approach and vision of his father in all aspects. His interests in all aspects of the emirate are clearly shown in his regular visits to follow-up government programmes in the emirate in all sectors. Shaikh Mohammed has been encouraging initiatives of excellence and creativity which is the best evidence that he is a worthy successor to the best predecessor.”
Faisal Abdul Aziz Al Matar, Head of Administrative Service Division at the Department of Economic Development (DED) in RAK said the appointment of Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud as Crown Prince of RAK is a wise and visionary decision by Shaikh Saud and like his father will help RAK triumph to higher heights.
Ahmed Abdullah Al Awadi, a government employee in RAK said that Shaikh Mohammed being a youth, his appointment as the Crown Prince of RAK will help the development of youth programmes like housing, education, culture and other fields like RAK’s tourism.
Saleh Mohammed Al Ustaaz, an employee in RAK Tourism Department, said, the appointment of Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud as Crown Prince of RAK was a brilliant and visionary idea because he is young, energetic and works for the development of RAK.
Aesha Khamis Al Shamsi, an Emirati working with a RAK government department congratulated Shaikh Mohammed bin Saud on his appointment as Crown Prince of RAK and said that it was an excellent decision by his father Shaikh Saud which indicated his vision.
