Mohammed attends HCT’s Anniversary celebrations

DUBAI - His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, last night attended the gala opening of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Higher Colleges of Technology, held at the Rixos Hotel on the Palm Dubai.

The ceremony was attended by Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Humaid bin Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education, Shaikh Hasher bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Director General of the Dubai Information Department, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Director of Dubai Ruler’s Court, Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, Vice Chairman of the higher board of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Lt. General Musabbah Rashid Al Fattan, Director of the Dubai Ruler’s Office, Juma Al Majid, Chairman of Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage, Saeed Mohammed Al Kindi, Chairman of the Lease Committee at Dubai Municipality, Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Dubai Director of Protocol and Hospitality, dignitaries and more than 1000 HCT alumni and students from 70 countries who are taking part in the week-long 7th edition of Education Without Borders conference.

In a speech, Shaikh Nahyan paid tribute the founding father of the UAE, the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who also established HCT, which now receives unlimited support from President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Shaikh Nahyan also thanked the His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for his patronage and follow up of HCT’s activities as well as his encouragement of male and female students to achieve excellence and to be creative and innovative.

He also thanked Their Highnesses the Supreme Council members and rulers of the emirates and His Highness General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces , for their support to HCT.

Shaikh Nahyan urged the students to cling to noble human values and to maintain bridges of cultural, social, educational and human interaction and exchange of expertise and knowledge. He described the youth as “the pillars of any society as their potentials and creativity bolster the stature of nations and preserves their progress.”

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid concluded the gala opening by cutting a specially-prepared cake. He also praised Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak for his sincere and diligent efforts which have led to the HCT’s attainment of scientific and academic excellence in education.

He noted that success is lifelong, while excellence is eternal.

Founded in 1988 by Federal Decree by the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) is the largest higher educational institution in the UAE, having a well-respected reputation for innovative learning.

Around 20,000 students attend HCT’s 17 modern men’s and women’s campuses nationwide. Around 60,000 academic certificates have been awarded to its male and female graduates.
