MoH to study lifestyle diseases

DUBAI - The Ministry of Health (MoH) is will carry out a comprehensive country-wide field study to identify the reasons behind the spread of life-style diseases.

`The goal of the study is to minimise the spread of behaviour-related diseases since there are great risks related to unhealthy eating habits, lack of exercise and random use of medications.

In this regard, the UAE Minister of Health, Dr Humaid Al Qutami recently met with the head of Nestle, which is also taking part in the study. Also present at the meeting was Dr Amin Al Amiri, Chief Executive Officer for Medical Practice and Licensing Agencies, MoH.

Dr Al Amiri said that the study will focus on the genetic aspects so as to achieve precision in identifying behaviors.

`"The results of the study will be an example for all Gulf countries. Similar studies will be carried out to benefit all countries in the region in the future," he explained. "The study is aimed at providing accurate results which will be officially announced in international scientific arenas," said Dr Al Amiri.
