Officials of the Ministry, including heads of education zones in each emirate will get together with education providers at an Open Day on Wednesday to further the cooperation between the government and the private sector in enhancing education in the country said Ali Maihid Al Suwaidi, Acting Director General of the Ministry of Education. The move comes as part of a directive by the Minister of Education, Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami to involve all stakeholders in identifying issues in education and reaching common solutions. The initiative seeks to enable better educational services by the private sector to the community.

There are 474 private schools in the UAE where more than half a million students, including 85,000 nationals are educated. The ministry will study the situation and role of the private education providers and work to eliminate problems that hinder development and their link with the government education sector.

Al Suwaidi said the Ministry wants to move away from a communication framework that did not involve the point of view of owners and managers of private schools and create a system to collectively develop strategies to raise the quality of education.

Many education providers have cited a communication gap with the education governing bodies that sometimes hinders their functioning.

Some private education providers in Dubai also recently formed the business group, Dubai Private Schools Group, to strengthen dialogue with the government and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. Now with the ministry’s new mechanism, education providers will be able to approach it with problems and a team that will comprise of ministry and private school officials that will review and resolve them.
