Around 350,000 students are studying in 4,500 private schools in the country, he said, answering questions raised by members of the Federal National Council (FNC) during a heated debate that continued for almost seven-and-a-half hours.

“Since it is our duty to ensure distinguished performance by all schools in the country, we are working at present on the establishment of an authority with the main duty of granting and issuing licences to schools that are eligible for these,” he said.

The ministry is planning to set up an education TV channel in coordination with Abu Dhabi TV to present education programmes, he said.
