Souq.com brought back the globally-known "Black Friday" sales to the UAE with the name of "White Friday" with an aim to sell half-a-million products worth millions of dollars during the four-day period that started November 23.
The e-commerce platform brought 10,000 exclusive deals with upto 70 per cent discount.
"Following the unprecedented sale of 600,000 items last year, all records are set to be broken during this year's regional shopping extravaganza as souq.com launches 25,000 exclusive new deals and anticipates that sales for White Friday 2016 will reach a remarkable one million items sold," said a spokesperson of souq.com.
Last year, Souq.com announced that it witnessed more than double the sales of 2014 with more than 13 million visitors and close to 600,000 items being sold across the UAE, KSA, Kuwait and Egypt.
Through Souq.com as well as on its mobile app, more than 40,000 different products were sold during White Friday 2015 sales period, with the top selling items recorded as: Perfumes, followed by Mobiles, Watches, Make up and Handbags.
Souq.com claimed that two items were sold per second last year and over 35 per cent of sales came from the mobile app. The sales from market place sellers was doubled versus that of 2014, with thousands of sellers who participated for the first time.
