Ministry bans fishing of Al Badha species
DUBAI - Saeed Mohammed Al Raghabani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, has issued a Ministerial decree banning fishing of 'Al Badha' (Majara) fish species in Abu Dhabi from April 1 until May 21, 2003, in an effort to preserve the fish resources in the region.
The decree stated that April and May is the breeding period for fish. As a result, fishing around this time will disrupt the breeding process and prevent propogation of the many fish species in the region.
Violation of the rule will lead to penalty according to the Federal Law No 23 for 1999 dealing with the protection and development of fishery resources in UAE.
According to a ministry official, plans are under way to also ban fishing of several fish varieties during the breeding period in the UAE waters.
