The minister made these comments as a group of students, environmental ambassadors of Al Ittihad Private School, gave a presentation on conserving water at Dubai Municipality on Wednesday evening.

Al Kindi said the ministry was always considering new rules to help protect the environment and regulate its industries, including fisheries and agriculture.

It’s crucial to conserve water in the UAE where the resource is a scarcity, he noted.

“Now we only have desalination,” Al Kindi said.

“Well water has almost vanished.”

Al Kindi said reusing waste water, such as by implementing technology on new developments to recycle and redirect water into irrigation and other sources, relaxed demand on sweet water.

The ministry also planned to hold and attend local and international conferences on the topic of water conservation.

Al Kindi said water had to be saved for the next generation, and praised the students for spreading a message of water conservation.

“You are the young generation,” he said. “We are depending on you.”

The handful of students made their presentation as part of the IRISADES for Arab Towns workshops, designed to develop leadership and communication skills of students and give them the chance to participate in international environment campaigns.

Wednesday’s presentation was made to top officials of Dubai Municipality, Ministry of Education, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the Ministry of Environment and Water.
