Meeting on blood borne diseases in February

SHARJAH — The Fifth Arab and Second Gulf Blood Transfusion and Blood Borne Diseases Conference will be held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The conference will be held at the University City Hall from February 6 to 8, according to Hamad Abdel Rahman Al Midfa, UAE Minister of Health and chairman of the conference.

Midfa said that Dr Shaikh Sultan has always supported science and knowledge, as he strives to make sure that learning in all specialities moves forward and continues to progress. He said such conferences are an excellent opportunity for medical practitioners to familiarise themselves with the latest developments in their field. He said the support of Dr Shaikh Sultan is a big boost to health care services in the country.

Hassan Ahmad Al Alkeem, Under-Secretary of the MoH and Deputy Chairman of the conference, said the ministry has contacted all colleges and universities and stressed the importance of taking part in the scientific sessions of the conference.

Alkeem said the MoH always seeks to support continuous medical education through organising such scientific conferences and working hard to increase participation in such an important scientific event.

Dr Abdel Ghaffar Abdel Ghafour, Assistant Under-Secretary for Curative Medicine at the MoH, said that 12 experts in blood transfusion and blood borne diseases from the US, France, Holland, the UK, Finland, Canada, Australia and Switzerland will participate in the conference.
