Medics honoured for treating Iraqi children

ABU DHABI — The UAE Red Crescent Society (UAE-RCS) yesterday honoured medical and nursing cadres who oversaw the treatment of Iraqi children.

These children had come to the UAE for receiving medical treatment as per the directives of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the follow-up by Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the UAE-RCS.

The honouring ceremony was held at Shaikh Khalifa Medical City.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Saleh Al-Taee, acting secretary-general of the UAE-RCS, 67 Iraqi children had come here for treatment. Of these, 52 had received full treatment and had returned to Iraq after being cured. The rest 15 are still receiving treatment.

Al-Taee said these children were suffering from chronic health problems.

Al-Taee added that the UAE-RCS had also completed arrangements for sending 40 tonnes of dates to Iraq to be distributed in the holy month of Ramadan.

Faris Ajil Al-Yawar, Iraq’s Ambassador to the UAE, praised the initiatives of Shaikh Khalifa and paid rich tributes to him for his humanitarian gestures towards the Iraqi people.
