Dr Kaabi's decision to discourage assistant under-secretary from dealing with the media comes after he used very offensive language and insulted the correspondent of Al Khaleej, the Arabic newspaper. The assistant under-secretary had behaved in an offensive manner with the journalist after Al Khaleej published some photographs that exposed the irregularities in the Ministry of Labour.

The sensible, cautious and well thought move of Dr Kaabi in preventing the assistant under-secretary from interacting with the media is a welcome step. It is expected that media would continue to get Dr Kaabi's support.

Media, on its part, would continue to reveal truth to the community and help find solution to the problems. It is expected that criticism that props up when media is on the right path will not deter the authorities from supporting the media. It cannot be over emphasised that Dr Kaabi, by his move to support the media, has underlined the importance of the media and set an example for others who underrate the media. Dr Kaabi's decision, it is hoped, will encourage people to respect media.
