Marijuana not for sale

DUBAI — A 30-year-old tailor who appeared before the Dubai criminal Court on Monday, denied any intention of selling marijuana weighing 23.44gm which he had possession of. He said the drug was not for sale, but for personal use.

A police major who raided his flat told the court that he had seen the suspect carrying a plastic bag. And when his room was searched, the police was able to seize another quantity of the drug.

Bribery attempt

The Dubai Public Prosecution charged an Asian for offering a bribe of Dh50,000 to a police officer in order to release him after he was arrested. While on duty, the officer got suspicious of a man and his companion driving very slowly on Emirates road. The officer stopped the car and the suspect and another man came out. As the police asked the twosuspects to report to Al Rashidya police station, the cops realised there was another man in the back of the car. The suspect then offered the officer the bribe, which he refused.

Drugs

The Dubai Public Prosecution has charged a 30-year-old Asian woman visitor for smuggling heroin weighing 700gm.

She was arrested at the Dubai International Airport carrying 80 capsules in her stomach. The suspect confessed and said the capsules were given to her by another man who had arrived in the same plane. pect. amira@khaleejtimes.com
