The compulsory health insurance, free for all UAE pilgrims, is expected to be issued soon, if okayed.

“The authority has actually received an offer from a UAE insurance company to provide the service for one week against payment of SR150 per head to the Haj pilgrims and those intending to perform Umrah from the UAE,” Dr. Hamdan Al Mazruwaei, Chairman of the GAIAA, told Khaleej Times on Sunday.

“The insurance will cover the trip and the time spent on performing the rituals until returning home. The authority will hold a meeting soon to discuss offer.”

Under the scheme, the insurance company will bear all expenses of medical checkup, medicines, surgical operations and all medical services the pilgrim may need during the trip.

The service will also include paying the heirs of the pilgrim financial compensation in case of his/her death and the expenses on flying the body to the UAE.
