Man who Offered Shelter to 24 Illegals Fined Dh2.4 m

DUBAI - An Emirati, who was found guilty of harbouring 24 infiltrators at his home in Bani Yas, has been fined Dh2.4 million and jailed for four months, a statement issued by the Abu Dhabi Naturalisation and Residence Department (ADNRD) said on Tuesday.

The remaining defendants will be deported after spending two months in prison.

The verdict in the case was issued recently by Bani Yas Court of First Instance.

The Acting Director of Naturalisation and Residency Department, Brigadier Nasser Al Awadhi Al Menhali, said in the statement that the infiltrators were arrested in a surprise raid on a number of residential buildings in the capital’s suburb, Bani Yas.

Brig Al Menhali stated that the sentence could be extended to six months in case of non-payment of fines.

He stressed that periodic and surprise inspections will continue in order to bring to book violators of the country’s residency laws.

“Without exception, deterrent action will be taken againstall thosesheltering or helping absconders or infiltrators,” he said.

“Similar action will also be taken againstpeople and companies that recruit absconders and infiltrators in contravention of the law of entry and residence,” he pointed out.

Brig Al Menhali emphasised thatthe lawstipulated that any person or company found recruiting absconders or infiltrators will be fined Dh50,000.
