Man lands in jail for forgery

DUBAI — Dubai Court of Appeal has sentenced a 29-year-old Nigerian national to a year in jail on the charge of forging passports and using stolen credit cards to buy air tickets and other products. He will be deported after serving his sentence.

According to the indictment sheet, the suspect identified as M A had stuck his photograph on a passport that belonged to a citizen of Benin. He was also alleged to have used stolen credit cards to purchase air tickets of Emirates Airlines besides wrist watches and perfumes totally valued at Dh151,229. He is also alleged to have forged air tickets of the Ethiopian national carrier.

Investigations revealed that he had committed such unlawful acts three years ago. The police were familiar with his modus operandi and had issued an alert. When he showed up at the Dubai international airport, he was nabbed. On searching him, police recovered three passports made out in different names.
