Man killed in hit-and-run

ABU DHABI — A man, believed to be a Pakistani in his 20s, was killed after he was knocked down by a car here on Thursday night.

The driver sped away without stopping.

The accident took place at 7.30pm.

The victim was crossing Zayed II street at Al Khalidiyya opposite Auqaf (Endowments Building) when the car hit him, throwing him 10 metres away.

Policemen and ambulance personnel rushed to the scene and found him bleeding profusely from the head.

A crowd of passers-by gathered on the spot while the rescue personnel worked hard to save the young man’s life.

They put him on the life-supporting machine and heart resuscitation device and rushed to Khalifa Hospital but he died on the way.

The Criminal Evidence Department is on the lookout for the car and its driver, police sources said.
