The prosecution had charged the accused with attempted murder after he poured sulphuric acid on the victim's body. The victim survived.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, while sentencing the accused to three years in jail followed by deportation, maintained the victim's right to seek compensation.

The defendant moved the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of Appeal, which upheld the lower court's order.

The defendant then moved the Federal Supreme Court, which, too, dismissed his petition and confirmed the verdicts of the lower courts.
