The court found that the absconding complaint filed by M.J. with the Labour Department in Sharjah against the employees of a contracting company sponsored by him was false and his intention was malicious.

According to Qamarudheen, the owner of the company, he had bought the company from another Indian national two years ago and had retained the 12 employees.

“M.J. was the sponsor and I had to pay him Dh10,000 as an annual sponsorship fee. However, he used to demand additional money from me,” he said.

“Last July, he came and demanded more money, which I refused to pay. Later in the month when I went to the Labour Department to cancel the visa of one of my employees, I was surprised to hear that the sponsor had filed an absconding petition against 12 of my employees,” said Qamarudheen.

“When I called the sponsor, he asked for more money to withdraw the complaint. Even though I paid the money demanded, he did not withdraw the complaint. Then I filed a case in the court in September, 2007.
