Ali was arrested with a wrapper of hashish in his possession at the airport. During interrogation, he admitted that someone in Cairo requested him to hand over the wrapper to a person who would meet him at the airport.

The accused was referred to the prosecution, which charged him with drug-trafficking and presented him before the court. The prosecution sought capital punishment for the accused. The defendant's lawyer countered this by saying that his client did not know that the wrapper he carried contained the drugs and was, therefore, innocent. The court accepted this argument, but punished him to four years in jail for carrying the contraband into the country.
