The police said on Tuesday that the Anti-Narcotics Unit came to know about the suspect, who is actually a resident of a neighbouring country, trying to sell hashish in Dubai. An undercover agent struck a deal with him to buy a quantity of hashish from him. He arrived in a parking lot in Hamriya Central Market as agreed. The police, lying in wait, arrested him as he took a plastic bag containing hashish from his car’s box and handed it over to the agent. He tried to resist the police and escape but the officers nabbed him.

The police seized 10kg of hashish from one plastic bag and 42 grams from another. The police raided the suspect’s temporary residence in Hor Al Anz and seized 30.596kg of hashish which he had hidden in different rooms.

He told the police that he had a deal with another Asian, who had left Dubai for his country. Under that deal, the second suspect sent drugs to Dubai and the arrested suspect would store and sell them.

The arrested suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Brigadier Abdul Jalil Mehdi, Director of the Anti-Narcotic Unit, praised the police officers for foiling the suspect’s attempt to distribute the drug in the emirate. He urged the public to inform the police through toll-free number 800400400 or through Dubai Police website, dam.admin@dubaipolice.gov.ae, about anyone who is suspected to be involved in drug deals.
