A man in Bhopal in central India allegedly killed himself in his house after a quarrel over a TV remote.
The man, in his 30s, was denied the TV remote by his wife while the family was watching television together, police stated. Shankar Vishwakarma, who worked at a small hotel, had returned from work on the fateful day and had dinner with his family as usual. However, when he asked his wife to hand him the remote, she refused and instead told him to go and sleep. Vishwakarma's family told police that he was an alcoholic and often got upset over trivial matters.
"When he asked for the TV remote, his wife refused and told him that he should take rest instead. He went into another room and hanged himself from the ceiling," investigating officer assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Amar Singh was quoted in Hindustan Times.
ASI Singh added Vishwarkarma's wife was unaware of his suicide and came to know that her husband had hanged himself only when she went into the room a little while later. "She immediately called other family members and police were informed," he said.
No suicide note has been left behind by the deceased and investigation into the case has been initiated.
