DUBAI - The Dubai Court of Appeal has upheld the verdict of the Court of First Instance which fined a Lebanese national Dh 5000 for sending an offensive SMS message in French to a woman.
Sameer Yonus aged 59 allegedly sent this message: “if you open your phone and find that you want to entertain yourself, I am ready for you today. Call Sameer ”
Mouna. B complained to the Murraqabat Police Station that Sameer kept sending messages and disturbing her from June to September 2005. The last message which was sent to her on December 3, 2005 was very humiliating, she charged.
The man admitted in the Court of First Instance that he had sent her the message for which he was fined Dh 5000. The man, however, moved the Court of Appeal denying the charges and asked the court to acquit him.
