Court records also highlighted the fact that Ghulam Mohamed Sultan was fully aware of the tranquilising effect of the prescription drugs he was taking. However, he was accused of driving his car recklessly.
The Public Prosecution accused him of recklessly driving his car in Sharjah, while still under the influence of the powerful prescription drugs. The Sharjah Traffic Court sentenced him to two months in prison, slapped him with a fine of Dh500, and forfeited his licence for three months. The accused moved the Sharjah Court of Appeal, which dismissed his petition, and upheld the earlier judgment.
The accused subsequently approached the Federal Supreme Court, denying the onus of any responsibility for his minor accidents and consequential damage to property. He argued these occured while he was under the influence of prescribed medication.
