The complainant, a Sri Lankan secretary aged 47, told the prosecutors that he met the defendant in the Sri Lankan consulate in Dubai. She told him that she owned a plot for sale in their home country. They agreed that he would buy it for Dh15,000. Accordingly, he transferred Dh7,000 to her through a money exchange office.

The complainant’s wife told the prosecutors that she had heard the defendant threatening her husband. She said the maid used to call them on their home landline phone. She heard the maid threatening her husband that she would tell everyone that they had sex.

She also recalled hearing the maid threatening to kill her husband and kidnap their children after he asked his money back.
