“Blood donation is important. It helps save lives, especially patients undergoing surgery and severely injured patients brought into the Accident and Emergency Department who require blood and blood products to stabilise them,” said John Nickens, CEO of Mafraq Hospital. According to recent studies, blood donation can help prevent heart disease and reduce the chance of a heart attack. Blood donation also helps the body to renew its blood cells. The donor will replace the blood fluid called plasma within about 24 hours. — olivia@khaleejtimes.com
