The lucky couple Ryan Divakar and Francesca Noronha who won Dh100,000 are ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a bang. —KT photoHer husband Vivian who was window shopping at the Mall of the Emirates said, “Valentines Day is just another day where retailers hope to sell cards and chocolates.

But the economy is in recession, so my wife shouldn’t expect a gift.” It’s the busiest time of the year for chocolate boutiques, flower shops and hotels.

St. Valentine’s Day or plain V Day for many is when couples take the opportunity to pamper their loved ones, or celebrate love and promise everlasting togetherness.

Ryan Divakar scooped a Dh100,000 shopping spree prioze at Deira City Centre’s DSF promotion in a result that was entirely down to the romantic interest in his life. Ryan’s fiancé, Francesca Noronha, had entered the competition on his behalf after buying him pair of sunglasses as a special gift. The huge win for Ryan came just two months after he relocated to Dubai.

The win was a complete surprise for the happy couple. “I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that the gift of these sunglasses from my fiancé was going to lead to this amazing shopping spree,” said Ryan.

“This is without doubt the second best thing that has happened to me after coming to Dubai—the first obviously being with my future wife, now,” he said. For Francesca, the chance buy has led her to believe that their romance is linked to good fortune.

“I entered the draw almost as an afterthought, but the win has made me realise that we are lucky in love!” she added.

The Dh100,000 shopping voucher draw is being held each week over the month-long DSF, which comes to an end on February 15—the day after Valentine’s Day.

Whereto go

Hotels and restaurants are vying to enchant couples with special menus on four-poster beds, foot massages and great music.

Cora De Conceicao-Stuart, Hotel Manager, The Address, Downtown Burj Dubai, said:” We’re focused on creating new hospitality choices for our guests that reflect the spirit of the season.” ‘Love is in The Address’, the Valentine’s Day package, promises a perfect evening for two over a private dinner on the terrace of the Spa Suite.

The in-suite 5-course candlelight dinner package overlooking Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest building, includes a private meeting with Executive Chef Uwe Faust to select the menu according to the couples’ preferences.

The hotel’s Valentine’s Package is only available on February 12, 13 and 14. Westin Hotel, Dubai and Mina Seyahi, Le Meridian have cooked up a delicious array of food at their various restaurants with prices raging from Dh125-Dh495 per person. Couples aiming to celebrate this year’s Valentine’s Day in a unique winter wonderland setting should look no further than Ski Dubai.

For the first time ever, Ski Dubai is offering pedestrian ski lift rides, turning a functional trip to the top of the slopes into a more leisurely journey. Couples opting for the Valentine weekend Pedestrian Package, being held on Thursday 12, Friday 13 and Saturday 14, can pay Dh375 for two entries to the Snow Park, where they can enjoy the winter-time scenery and participate in fun activities such as tobogganing and tyre tubing.

In addition to accessing the park, they will also be entitled to a trip on the Ski Dubai chairlift at the centre’s main slopes stopping at the Avalanche Café halfway up for a warming hot chocolate. After experiencing the truly amazing slopes and scenery at Ski Dubai, couples can then unwind and enjoy dinner at the St. Moritz restaurant; which is offering themed meals for the special occasion.
