Law on Aids Patients Welcomed

ABU DHABI - Dr Ibrahim Al Qahwaji, a physician, on Tuesday said the Health Ministry’s plans to draft a federal law to deal with Aid cases in coordination with the World Health organisation (WHO) reflects the efforts made by the UAE government to root out the disease from the country.

The proposed law would not just focus on the patients but also on fighting the disease, he said.

The law would help integrate Aids patients into the mainstream under strict regulations that would safeguard the community’s wellbeing as well as treat the patients as human beings, Dr Al Qahwaji said.

Ahmed Nasr Sad, an accountant, said all ministries, national associations and societies must join the country’s efforts in this field. They must immediately report if any infected person is found so that the patient gets proper treatment and the authorities concerned could find out how the person contracted the infection.
