The meeting came as divisions grow in Europe over the proposed tariffs
"This is the first time in the history of World Bank/IMF meetings that high speed Internet and telecommunication network have ever been provided in all the meeting rooms," said Obaid Saeed bin Mashar, Director of Etisalat Dubai and Chairman of Communications and Technology Committee for Dubai 2003.
Mr Bin Mashar added that the Convention Centre in Dubai has been linked through a network to the headquarters of WB/IMF in Washington so as to enable the General Sec.retariat of the international bodies to access their archives.
Etislaat has created a state-of-the-art mobile phone infrastructure to ensure that modern technology is utilised for the success of the biggest and the most important economic event ever hosted by the Arab world, Mr Bin Mashar said.
The mobile network will allow 53,000 users to use their cellphones in the meeting centre at a time. The Press centre has been equipped with over 200,000 computers.
