Labourer battling for life after wall collapse

SHARJAH — A 35-year-old Pakistani labourer, Khan Al Zaman, an employee of Emirates Construction Company, was seriously injured when the concrete wall of a building under construction collapsed in Sharjah yesterday at 11am. He was rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital in a critical condition with head injuries.

Zaman had been working for the construction company for more than 10 years.

A police source said an iron bar pierced the labourer's head and face. A source in the hospital said as a result of skull injuries and heavy bleeding he has gone into a coma and doctors were trying their best to revive him.

Although the exact location of the construction site was not revealed, police sources said the operations room had received a call and immediately despatched a patrol and rescue team to Al Gharine area near Sharjah Airport.
