Toomaj Salehi risks being hanged after the conviction on the Shariah charge of "corruption on Earth" by a Revolutionary Court
With refugee children in Syria severely affected by the ongoing struggles being witnessed in the war-ravaged country, an in-kind donations campaign has been set-up in the UAE to alleviate the children’s hardship, and help them in their time of need.
The Labour Ministry, represented by the Financial Resources department, has launched the campaign in collaboration with the Red Crescent Authority.
The initiative, themed ‘From UAE People to the children of Syria’, has been organised out of the belief of the ministry in its social responsibility towards supporting humanitarian initiatives, which are meant for boosting cohesion and societal solidarity towards the people of the Arab world.
Director of the ministry’s Financial Resources Department, Mohammed Saqr Al Nuaimi, delivered the donations to the Dubai Red Crescent Authority’s Director, Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaroiuni, at a ceremony held recently at the ministry’s office.
During the ceremony, the authority was honoured for its supportive efforts to humanitarian and social initiatives, as well as many projects in favour of providing aid to Syrian children.
The donations include 20 boxes containing winter clothing, footwear and blankets, among other materials donated by the employees of the ministry during a month-long campaign.
In a speech he delivered at the ceremony, Al Nuaimi stressed the ministry’s keenness on organising such humanitarian initiatives, which translate its social responsibility and ingrain it in the minds and hearts of the employees. “The initiative received a great response from the employees. They underlined the continuity of these initiatives, which bring joy and delight to the hearts of children, and alleviate their endurance, putting a smile back on their faces.”
A film on the initiative, its objectives and results were shown, along with another documentary on the activities of the Red Crescent and its charity and humanitarian initiatives. The virtue of charity in Islam was also stressed.
