Labour Courts in Abu Dhabi ruled in favour of workers

ABU DHABI - Reconciliation & Settlement Committees at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) ruled in 2012 in favour of 1,836 workers settling cases worth Dhs 12.8 million. The Committees ordered Dhs 1.2 million in financial entitlements to one worker.

An ADJD statistical report said the Committees had achieved 99.8% case settlement rate in 2012, an increase of 0.9% over the previous year.

The report noted that 1,836 cases (26.9%) out of 6,991 cases examined by courts were settled amicably. New cases filed with courts stood at 6,810 in 2012.

Cases referred to labour courts accounted for 73% or 4,732 cases. The Committees failed to strike accord in 414 cases while cases, in which a plaintiff and defendant or both, showed unwillingness to resort to reconciliation numbered 4,318.

Cases filed with primary labour courts dropped to 518 in 2012 from 528 in 2011.
