The results were announced on World Volunteers Day that is marked each year on December 5.

“Online volunteer Ayesha has been instrumental in shaping the visual communication of Grace Foundation. The graphic designer from Pakistan has designed a wide range of communication materials for Grace, which works to empower communities through the promotion of self-sufficiency of underprivileged and low-income families,” reads the Press statement issued to announce the winners.

In addition, Ayesha’s support was critical for the success of a campaign for which she designed all promotional materials, including name tags, T-shirts and posters. Through the campaign, Grace Foundation was able to raise $50,000.

“Ayesha has really become a vital member of the team,” says Joan Oviawe, Executive Director of the Nigerian based Grace Foundation. “She was initially asked to help us for a short period of time; she has since remained a steadfast supporter of our work and continues to provide invaluable graphic designs.”

“Joan was very helpful in outlining the requirements for the design and we instantly hit it off from there! All I asked of her was to keep the work flowing and she did,” says Ayesha.

In 2009 alone, the UNV Online Volunteering service helped development organisations worldwide to engage more than 6,000 online volunteers.

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. The winners are awarded with certificates while detailed profiles are posted on www.onlinevolunteering.org to give inspiration and motivation to others.
