SHARJAH — The first phase of the water desalination plant project, which was launched by the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) in Khor Fakkan recently, will be operational from next week.
The plant, which is one of the planned projects to solve the water scarcity in the emirate, will have the capacity to desalinate 2.5 million gallons of water per day.
Ahmed Al Mulla, Deputy Director of the Sewa branch in the Eastern Area, said trial operations were conducted and they proved that the plant could produce the best quality desalinated water which will meet the international standards.
Work on the second phase of the project will start soon after the first phase opens.
The two plants will increase production of desalinated water to five million gallons per day.
The new plant will supply water to Khor Fakkan, Al Iulia, Al Zibara and Hissah.
“These areas have been facing the worst water scarcity and Sewa has made all efforts to end the problem completely,” Al Mulla said.
Water scarcity that had plagued the emirate for three years has been solved and there would not be any shortage in the future, Al Mulla said.
