Khalifa visit to boost relations with Algeria

ALGIERS — The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, arrived here yesterday on a two-day state visit on the invitation of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Shaikh Khalifa is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Minister for Presidential Affairs Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister for Public Sector Development Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, Chief of Executive Affairs Authority Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak and UAE ambassador to Algeria Ahmed Mahmoud Al Hosni.

The UAE President was received at the airport by President Bouteflika, Abdul Qadir bin Salih, Speaker of the National Council, Abdul Aziz Ziyari, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Abdulaziz Bilkhadem, the Prime Minister and a number of the cabinet ministers besides the Algerian Ambassador to the UAE, Humaid Chebira.

Shaikh Khalifa was greeted upon his arrival by a marching band and a 21-gun salute.

In a statement made to the Press after his arrival, Shaikh Khalifa said that his visit was aimed at further strengthening ties between the two countries in all fields.

Following is the text of the statement:

“We are extremely happy to visit the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on the invitation of my brother President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, out of our keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields to serve the common interest of the two countries and their two brotherly peoples. We are pleased with the level of cooperation between the two countries and the tremendous progress achieved by the joint ministerial commission in expanding cooperation at all levels and opening new avenues for integration, as well as economic and commercial partnership.

“We view this visit as a great opportunity to confer with President Abdulziz Bouteflika about current Arab, regional and international developments and the importance of coordinating efforts to boost joint Arab action.”
