The Western Region Municipality shall be an autonomous body based in Madinat Zayed. The law provides for transferring all property and assets previously allocated to the Western Region by the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Agriculture to the newly-created entity according to a transition plan. The plan shall be implemented in three months.

According to the law, the municipality shall be run by a management team, tasked with creating divisions and sections as per the organisational structure approved by the municipality’s director-general. The team will be required to provide municipal services to the residents and implement the municipal council’s resolutions. The Western Region shall have a 16-member municipal council, including chairman and deputy chairman. They shall be appointed through a resolution by the Executive Council.

The municipal council will serve a two-year term. At least six of the appointed members will be residents of Madinat Zayed, Al Mirfa, Liwa, Silaa, Ghayathi and Delma.

The council is entitled to form permanent committees — like executive, auditing, town and suburbs services, public works, infrastructure, licensing and town planning committees — to assist it in achieving its goals.
