ABU DHABI — The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued a decree establishing an independent foundation to spearhead family and community welfare programmes.

In his capacity as the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Shaikh Khalifa issued Law No. 11 for 2006 on the establishment of the family welfare foundation which will be headed by Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
The new autonomous body will be based in the city of Abu Dhabi and its branches could be opened anywhere within the emirate. It will seek to realise a long list of objectives, all geared toward consolidation of family bonds through entrenchment of religious values and Arab traditions and empowerment of women to make a proactive contribution to socio-economic development The new organisation will also implement programmes aimed at fighting poverty, improving maternity and child care standards, and protecting the women's rights.
