ABU DHABI -- President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has received the new UAE electronic passport (e-passport) at Al Diyafa Palace in Al Mushrif in the presence of His Highness General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
Shaikh Khalifa expressed his admiration on the modern design and high-tech features of the passport following its receipt from Lt. General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
President Khalifa on the occasion said that this achievement comes in the framework of the implementation of governmental strategy on improving the government work to keep pace with international standards.
He also stressed that these measures and initiatives will help in building a high-level security cover keeping pace with modern technological developments practiced in the most advance countries of the world.
He expressed his appreciation to the leaders, officers and members of the Ministry of Interior pointing out that this achievement will foster efforts to further consolidate state’s security and stability.
The meeting was attended by Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, Shaikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler‘s Representative in the Eastern Region Lt.General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, Dr. Shaikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Executive Council Member, Dr. Shaikh Saeed bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ahmed Juma Al Za’abi, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs along with a number of Shaikhs, ministers and senior officials.
Shaikh Saif on the occasion expressed his delight and said, “This national pilot project is another step towards modernization of the country led by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa and with the support of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates. “
The Ministry of the Interior has recently started issuing the e-passports for citizens in accordance with the technical and security requirements issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization, as it succeeded in the completion of the project before the deadline of 2014.
The e-passport has a microchip in the last page that contains encrypted biometric data to prevent forgery. The passport photograph, signature and fingerprint are printed and cannot be modified.
The first page contains a watercolour outline of the outer frame of Shaikh Zayed Mosque and the last page contains a drawing of the actual mosque with domes and columns.
