Shaikh Khalifa was briefed on the agreement signed between Fatah and Hamas movements in Makkah at the behest of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia. Shaikh Khalifa welcomed the accord as a step to strengthen Palestinian national unity and as a beginning of serious moves by Arab and International community to end the blockade imposed on the Palestinian people.

Abbas thanked Shaikh Khalifa for his continuous support to the Palestinian people and for his efforts in enhancing the national unity among Palestinians in a way that will boost efforts to establish independent state of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.

Earlier, Shaikh Khalifa received a telephone call from President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal.

The two leaders reviewed ties of cooperation and friendship between the two countries. They also exchanged views on the current regional and international developments.
