Khalifa hails ties with Lebanon

ABU DHABI - Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received here Lebanese Foreign Minister Jean Obeid, who is visiting the country as part of a regional tour.

Shaikh Khalifa welcomed the Lebanese minister and accompanying delegation and wished them success in their current tour and said that the visit would contribute in further strengthening the fraternal bilateral relations. During the meeting, the Lebanese minister conveyed the greetings of the Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud to the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his wishes for Shaikh Zayed's good health and more progress and prosperity for the UAE people, Shaikh Khalifa asked the minister to convey Shaikh Zayed's greetings, as well as his greetings to the Lebanese leader.

The Lebanese minister expressed delight at visiting the UAE, lauding the UAE stances in support of the Lebanese people in various issues and occasions.

The meeting discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, as well as the fraternal relations between the two countries and ways to develop them further in various domains in a way that would serve the common interest of the people.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Abdullah and his Lebanese counterpart Jean Obeid held talks here on Monday on Middle East and bilateral relations. The talks dealt with Arab concerns over the Middle East question and how an Arab action to reach a fair and lasting solution, based on the resolutions of the international legitimacy, could be activated.
